1.Pop one’s clogs—

解釋：某人生命即將走到盡頭（委婉說法）。

例句：No one knew he was about to pop his clogs.

           沒有人知道他快死了。

2.That went down a treat—

解釋：某件事情讓人非常喜歡、享受。

例句： The cake went down a treat!

            那個蛋糕真的棒極了（太好吃了）！

3.Take the mickey/mick—

解釋：開玩笑，嘲笑，揶揄。

例句： Stop taking the mickey out od your brother!

            停止開你弟弟的玩笑！

4.Itchy feet—

解釋：蠢蠢欲動想嚐試點新鮮的事物。

例句：After two years in the job she’s got itchy feet, so she’s going to spend three months in Australia.
           她持續做了這份工作兩年以後，想來點新的嘗試！因此他決定到澳洲待個三個月。

5.At a loose end—

解釋：沒事幹、覺得無聊。

例句：He’s been at a loose end ever since he retired.

           他自從退休後一直無所事事

6.Another string to your bow—

解釋：另一項對生涯有幫助的技能（特別指職業生啀）。

例句：I’m learning French so I’ll have another string to my bow.

           我正在學法文，這樣我就可以有另一項專業技能。

7.As the actress said to the bishop—

解釋：她就是這樣說的（有些性暗示的意味）。

例句：Blimey, that’s a big one—as the actress said to the bishop.

           她是這麼說的：Blimey（人名），那很大喔。

8.Bob’s your uncle (and fanny’s your aunt)—

解釋：「看吧！」，或是，一定會順利的，就會是這樣

Ps. 加上”and fanny’s your aunt”也還是一樣的意思，只是會更強調英式諺語的效果！

   例句：

A:“Where’s the Queen Elizabeth Pub?”

   伊麗莎白女皇酒吧在哪？

B: “You go down the road, take the first left and Bob’s your uncle — there it is on the corner!”

   沿著這條路直走，在第一個交叉口左轉，然後…看吧！酒吧就在那個角落！

9.Cheap as chips—

解釋：超便宜！

Ps. 我們都喜歡買超值的東西，而當你看到價格非常便宜，並且你覺得非常不錯的東西時，你就可以說：cheap as chips！

例句：Only a fiver for a ticket — cheap as chips mate!

           一張票才五鎊，超便宜！

10.Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves—

解釋：省小錢，變大錢。

Ps. 這句諺語是英國老一輩的時常對晚一輩的孩子們說的，意思是：如果你不亂花小錢，那麼自然地小錢會累積成大前，變成夠永久的財富。

11.Nosy parker—

解釋：八卦女／長舌婦／八卦男／大嘴吧

這句片語適合所有很愛八卦的人，特別是那種非常愛探知別人生活大小事的人。

例句：Stop being such a nosy parker! They’re having a private conversation!
           不要再表現得像個大嘴吧！ 他們在講私事！
